Superintendent recommends two new principals for high schools
6/14/2004 3:35 PM

Saint Paul Public Schools Superintendent Patricia Harvey has announced her recommendations to the Board of Education to fill principal openings at Highland Park Senior High School and Humboldt Senior High School.

Omoyefe Agbamu is Harvey's choice to lead Highland Park Senior High School. Since 2003, Agbamu has worked as assistant principal at Highland Park High School. For two years prior to working at Highland, she served as a substitute assistant principal and a Title I coordinator, both at Arlington Senior High School. She has also taught in English Language Learner programs in Bida, Nigeria; Bronx, New York; and in the Saint Paul Public Schools.

Harvey said Agbamu's experience and passion make her a natural for the position. "Dr. Agbamu has distinguished herself as a dedicated leader in our district," said Harvey. "She cares deeply about helping every student succeed and has the knowledge and skills to truly make a difference in their lives."

Agbamu will replace Mary Beth Cutting, who is retiring.

John S. Bianchi is Harvey's choice to be principal at Humboldt Senior High School. Bianchi, who most recently served as principal of Minnetonka High School in Minnetonka, Minn., during the 2003 school year, brings more than 40 years of educational experience to Humboldt. His career includes two years as assistant principal at Harding Senior High School (2000-2002), a year as principal of Stillwater High School (1999-2000) and more than 30 years in a variety of positions in the Bloomington public school district.

Harvey said Bianchi's vast experience will be an asset to Humboldt's students and staff. "I am thrilled to recommend an educational professional who has seen and done so much in his career," she said. "Mr. Bianchi has worked at nearly every level in public education and I am confident he will hit the ground running and make an immediate impact at Humboldt."

Bianchi will replace Steve Lindberg, who is taking another leadership role within the district.

The Saint Paul Board of Education is expected to vote on the recommendations at the June 22 school board meeting. At that time, Harvey expects to bring forward her recommendations for principal positions at several elementary schools.
