Regional Community Strategic Plan Meetings 12/14/2006 2:04 PM For the past few months, Superintendent Meria Carstarphen and school
district staff have been developing a new strategic plan, which
outlines how resources will be prioritized to accelerate student
achievement in the Saint Paul Public Schools through 2009.

Superintendent and Mayor announce Citywide Book Club book selections for 2006-07 12/4/2006 3:58 PM Saint Paul Public Schools Superintendent Meria
Carstarphen and Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman announced their choices
for the Citywide Book Club today. For adults and secondary students,
they chose “The Things They Carried,” a collection of 22 interrelated,
short fictional episodes about Vietnam by Tim O’Brien, a Minnesota
native.

Judy Bjorklund, who teaches second grade at Roosevelt Elementary
School, has been notified that she is a finalist in the Woman’s
Day/Poise Rising Star Awards Contest.

Elementary School in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Friday, September 29 at
9:30 a.m. as part of the U.S. Department of Education’s Back-To-School
Initiative.

Saint Paul Public School Board seeks public input regarding referendum 6/30/2006 12:45 PM The Saint Paul Public School Board is asking for input from Saint Paul
residents through a brief, important survey. The board is considering
placing on the November 2006 ballot a renewal of the 2002 Referendum
and would like to hear from the public prior to making a decision.

retirement, Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman proclaimed that June 28,
2006 is Lou Kanavati Day.
| Bruce F. Vento Elementary Offers New Spanish Bilingual Program for Fall 2006 6/22/2006 11:35 AM Saint Paul Public Schools today announced that it is beginning a new
Spanish bilingual program at Bruce F. Vento Elementary. This
Spanish/English program is open to Spanish-speaking Kindergarten and
first grade students who live east of 35E and north of I-94 and begins
in September 2006.
