Saint Paul Parent Information Fair Helps Families Choose Schools
1/17/2001 9:45 AM

Saint Paul parents have a chance to meet representatives from more than 100 schools at the 2001 Parent Information Fair on Saturday, February 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Saint Paul RiverCentre’s Roy Wilkins Auditorium, 175 Kellogg Blvd.

At the Parent Information Fair, parents will see everything related to choosing the first or next school for their child, including public, charter, private and parochial school booths; educational program booths; and individualized attention from Saint Paul Public Schools Student Placement Center staff.

“This is the only chance for parents of school-age children to see so many educational choices in one place,” said Arty Dorman, director of Family and Community Involvement for the Saint Paul Public Schools. “We are working to give parents what they need to make the best choices for their children, and that begins with providing a place for parents and school representatives to meet and exchange valuable information.”

The Parent Information Fair helps parents begin their school search for the 2001-2002 school year. All Saint Paul residents this month will receive a School Choices and Services Catalog, which includes descriptions of each Saint Paul public school and an application for elementary and secondary magnet schools.

Evaluations from parents who have attended previous Parent Information Fairs were used to make improvements to the 2001 fair, including increasing the number of interpreters and providing more individualized help for parents to answer specific questions. Hmong, Spanish, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Somali and American Sign Language interpreters will be available at the fair.

The fair also includes family activities to stimulate learning in elementary-aged children, including art projects for the entire family and make-and-take crafts. The fair is free and pre-registration is not required. Free parking is available at the Saint Paul Technical College, 235 Marshall Ave., with free with shuttle buses to RiverCentre during fair hours.

Sponsors include 3M, Capital City Partnership, Wells Fargo, Ecolab, the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis and The St. Paul.
