This event honors the fifth- and sixth-grade students who have assisted their fellow students in safely traveling to and from school during the school year.
Starting at 10 a.m., students will parade from the assembly area at Fourth and Sibley streets to Fifth and Washington streets accompanied by marching bands from Saint Paul junior and senior high schools. Saint Paul Fire Chief Douglas Houlton will be represented by Deputy Fire Chief Anthony Carter as Grand Marshall. Retiring Chief of Police William Finney, an alumnus of the Saint Paul School Patrol, will be Guest of Honor.
Following the parade the school patrol members will be transported to Como Park where they will enjoy a variety of events and a picnic of hot dogs, pop and ice cream. The Winter Carnival Vulcans and Royal Family will attend the picnic. Other highlights will include fire and police equipment, the State Patrol helicopter, as well as equipment from the National Guard.
The picnic will be presented by staff from the Saint Paul Public Schools and Saint Paul Police Department along with members of the Saint Paul Jaycees, the Saint Paul Retired Principals Association, and the 3M Retirees Club.
