| | Willie Nesbit to lead Community Education program that serves 250,000 per year 11/9/2004 3:55 PMSaint Paul Public Schools Superintendent Patricia Harvey announced today (Tuesday, Nov. 9) that Willie Nesbit is her choice to lead the district's Community Education program, which includes Family Education, Adult Learning and Community Programs that serve more than 250,000 people per year.
Nesbit joined the Saint Paul Public Schools staff in 1997 and is currently assistant director of the Hubbs Center, which serves adult students.
Prior to joining Saint Paul Public Schools, Nesbit served in leadership positions for several organizations including the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Minneapolis, Lakewood Community College and Saint Paul Community College.
According to Harvey, he is a natural choice to lead Community Education. "I admire Willie's commitment to education and his ability to build consensus among diverse groups of people," she said. "Community Education programs are critical to a great many people in Saint Paul."
"My goal is to make sure Saint Paul Public Schools continues to have an unmistakably strong connection to our community," said Nesbit. "We want all of our constituent populations to help us support our students phenomenal achievement."
According to Mike Frederickson, chair of the Hubbs Center Community Education Advisory Council, it shouldnt be difficult for Nesbit to reach his goal. "In addition to his hard work at the Hubbs Center, Willie has initiated many programs within our community," he said. "These partnerships have been a great collaboration with our business community, nonprofit community and beyond. His many strengths have furthered the goals and represented the goals of Saint Paul Public Schools."
The Board of Education is expected to vote on Nesbits appointment at an upcoming meeting. Nesbit will replace Terilyn Turner, who retired earlier this year.
