Saint Paul, Minn – Sharon G. Flake, a noted author of books geared toward teen readers, is meeting with 27 students of Saint Paul Public Schools OnTrack Program to discuss their success. They will also talk about her books, which include Bang! and The Skin I’m In.

The students are among those who are successfully completing course requirements in the district’s OnTrack Program. The program, located at Cleveland Junior High School, was initiated last year and works to help students earn the credits needed to graduate into high school.

Flake is in town as part of the YWCA of Saint Paul’s centennial celebration activities, but also is looking forward to visiting with the OnTrack students. Soultouch Productions, a film and television production company, is using Flake’s book, The Skin I’m In, as the basis of an initiative that encourages self-confidence and nurtures positive self and cultural images.

Flake has won several awards and recognitions for her work, including being named the 2004 Coretta Scott King Honor Award winner for work written about the African American experience and written for a young audience.

Students and staff members will be available for interviews after the discussion.
