Monday, Feb. 9: Take Your Child to School/Visit Your Child in School National African American Parent Involvement Day
(NAAPID) is a national call to action to get parents, particularly
those of children of African American descent, more involved in
their educational lives. It is expected that this national observation
will open up dialogue among teachers, parents, and students, which will
lead to a more conducive learning environment for African American
students from kindergarten through college. While the focus of the day (during African American History Month) is primarily on African Americans, the purpose and intent of NAAPID is inclusive, not exclusive. ALL parents are encouraged to participate. Schools are encouraged to plan events and activities to promote involvement, including classroom visitations, luncheons/dinners, and national speakers, as part of day-, week-, or month-long celebrations. Please look below for materials to help you in planning--and also the "Join Us" link in the sidebar for a list of activities, projects and events that schools have planned this year. |
