Saint Paul, Minn – Tuesday marks the application priority deadline for people seeking to become teachers in Saint Paul Public Schools as part of the Saint Paul Teaching Fellows initiative.

More than 400 people have shown an interest in the program and more than 150 candidates have applied to the program which is geared to professionals and recent college graduates who are interested in teaching careers. The goal is to hire between 30 and 50 of the candidates to teach math, science, reading, bilingual elementary education and special education in the fall of 2008.

The priority deadline for applicants is January 22, but information sessions and interview events will continue in the coming months with the final deadline for applicants being March 10. Candidates who are hired will take part in rigorous training this summer and will work towards their Minnesota Full Professional Education License while teaching full-time.
