Highland Park freshman lock-in Friday promotes graduation; class unity

SAINT PAUL, Minn.- With a Freshman Class Lock-in, staff at Highland Park Senior HighSchool are taking an extraordinary effort to encourage students tograduate in four years and to be prepared for post-secondary education.The overnight event is Thursday, November 6, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. There isno school on Friday.

Students will start together at 10:30 p.m.in the auditorium. Principal Dr. Nancy Katzmarek will deliver themessage for the evening: "You are all here because you will begraduating in June of 2012. Look around you and look at your neighborsand know that each and every one of you needs to be here on June 12,2012. Each of you is responsible for each other. Look around at yourclassmates tonight and get telephone numbers, set up study groups andfind support. We are all going to take a pledge tonight that we willall be here to help each other stay in school and graduate in 2012. Weare the best ninth grade team in the State of Minnesota! If you believein yourselves and if you believe in each other and you work together tomake it happen each of you will successfully graduate."

Ninthgrade House Administrator is Kara Amundson and ninth grade Lead TeacherBeth Kallestad are coordinating the event. Ninth grade tachers andparent volunteers will chaperone students as they participate in teambuilding activities, sports tournaments, play video and board games,and watch movies.
