11/29/2006 3:33 PM

Who:    Saint Paul Public Schools Superintendent Meria Carstarphen and Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman will be joined by Saint Paul Public Library Executive Director Melanie Huggins, Saint Paul literacy advocates, and six of the authors of the books selected for this year’s Citywide Book Club.  This will be the first time the authors have been present for the announcement.

What:     Large, poster-size images of the book covers will be unveiled as the titles selected for the Saint Paul Reads Citywide Book Club are announced.

When:    10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4

Where:
   Common Good Books
Selby and Western Avenues (below Nina’s Cafe)
    Saint Paul

Why:      Since 2001, the Saint Paul Public Schools and the City of Saint Paul have partnered to promote the Citywide Book Club, the goal of which is to improve literacy and build community among the city’s increasingly diverse residents through the common experience of reading and
discussing the same books. This year’s announcement, like last year’s, will include one book recommendation for adults and secondary students, one for youth, and a choice of five for elementary students.
