Meria Carstarphen and Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman will be joined by
Saint Paul Public Library Executive Director Melanie Huggins, Saint
Paul literacy advocates, and six of the authors of the books selected
for this year’s Citywide Book Club. This will be the first time
the authors have been present for the announcement.
What: Large, poster-size images of the book
covers will be unveiled as the titles selected for the Saint Paul Reads
Citywide Book Club are announced.
When: 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4

Why: Since 2001, the Saint Paul Public Schools
and the City of Saint Paul have partnered to promote the Citywide Book
Club, the goal of which is to improve literacy and build community
among the city’s increasingly diverse residents through the common
experience of reading and
discussing the same books. This year’s announcement, like last year’s,
will include one book recommendation for adults and secondary students,
one for youth, and a choice of five for elementary students.
