Prosperity Heights Elementary

This small, close-knit neighborhood school of 380 students is culturally diverse. Students are presented with a safe, orderly, and structured learning environment. Prosperity Heights Elementary is a nationally recognized Title I school for “Beating the Odds” in outstanding student academic achievement.


Demographics (2006-07)

  • 372 students (PreK - 6)
  • 83% students receiving free or reduced-price meals
  • 43% English Language Learners
  • 13% Special Education
History
The original school was built in 1924 and consisted of three portable classrooms connected by a corridor. A 1949 parent protest of an inadequate school building helped persuade the district to construct a new building in 1953.

SAT-10 Math Results (2005-06)

Prosperity Heights students are making gains at faster rate than the district in grades 4, 5 and 6; and are scoring similarly to the district average in grade 3.

For all grades,
  • 94% of Asian American students are at or above average
  • 79% of Latino/Hispanic students are at or above average
  • 89% of African American students are at or above average
  • 91% of Caucasian students are at or above average
