What those numbers tell us is that most Minnesotans did not gain ground during the economic expansion. Instead, median household income in Minnesota, adjusted for inflation, actually decreased from $58,400 in 2001 to $55,800 in 2007.

Kelley: Minnesota needs to change the way it approaches teaching science and math
After Minnesota recently reported the results of the first statewide science tests mandated by the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), the media headlines were simple: “Minnesota students not proficient in science.” In fairness, that was an accurate description of the results. Across the three grades tested, only 40 percent to 43 percent of students received “proficient” or better scores.
