In the past year, the Twin Cities public school system has seen an increase in homeless students, due to housing foreclosures, evictions, and the recession.

What the fuss was all about: Text of Obama’s speech to students
The White House has released the text of the president’s speech, as well as a guide, produced by the Department of Education, that teachers can use for classroom discussion (pdf). His radical message? “We need every single one of you to develop your talents, skills and intellect so you can help solve our most difficult problems. If you don’t do that – if you quit on school – you’re not just quitting on yourself, you’re quitting on your country.”
