SPPS awarded with State of Minnesota Finance Award for 2009, one of few large districts to achieve award

Saint Paul, Minn. - The Saint Paul Public School (SPPS) district has been awarded the State of Minnesota Finance Award for 2009. School organizations received the award because they exhibited fiscal health, sound fiscal management and accountability. In addition to meeting the requirements put forth by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), SPPS is one of the few large school districts in the state to achieve the award since its inception in fiscal year 2003.

"Saint Paul Public Schools has a long history of excellent financial management practices and it is wonderful to be recognized for the good work that is done in the Business Office every day,"
said SPPS Chief Financial Officer, Lois Rockney. She also commended SPPS Chief Budget Analyst Jaber Alsiddiqui and Controller Michael Baumann for achieving this award. Alsiddiqui and Baumann played a fundamental role in coordinating the year-end reporting to the State and the completion of the audit.

Staff at MDE reviewed local publications, audit reports and thousands of pieces of fiscal data on reporting units to determine the award winners. The State of Minnesota Finance Award for 2009 is a result of the financial operations of fiscal year 2008.
