Saint Paul Parent Information Fair helps families choose schools
2009 fair features more than 100 school/program exhibits

Next fall isn’t really that far away and since the application deadline in Saint Paul for secondary schools is Feb. 27 and March 6 for elementary schools, parents need to work fast to pick the right school for their children. On Saturday, Jan. 10 Saint Paul parents have a chance to meet representatives from more than 100 Saint Paul schools and programs at the 2009 Saint Paul Public School District Parent Information Fair.

The fair runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 10 at Saint Paul RiverCentre’s Roy Wilkins Auditorium, 175 W. Kellogg Blvd.

Whether you’re a parent with a young child going to school next fall for the first time, or a student who needs to pick a junior or senior high school, the Saint Paul Parent Information Fair is the ideal place to start choosing the school that’s right for you and your family. All Saint Paul public schools, as well as many charter, private, and parochial schools will be at the fair. Information about other services for children will be available as well, including early childhood education, English language learner programs, services for gifted students, special education students and much more. Families also can get one-on-one help from Saint Paul Public Schools Student Placement Center staff regarding the school selection process and how to complete an application.

Interpreters will be available at the fair to help families.  Interpreters are available in Hmong, Spanish, Somali, Vietnamese, Khmer, Karan, Oromo, Amharic, and American Sign Language.

The fair is free and pre-registration is not required.  Free parking is available and free shuttle buses to RiverCentre will run during fair hours from the following locations:

• Sears (425 Rice St., Saint Paul); starting at 9:15 a.m.
• Saint Paul Public Schools Administration Building (360 Colborne St., Saint Paul); starting at 9:15 a.m.
• Johnson Senior High School (1349 Arcade St., Saint Paul) &
Harding Senior High School (1540 E. Sixth St., Saint Paul); starting at 9 a.m.

The Parent Information Fair helps parents begin their school search for the 2009-2010 school year.  Available at the fair is the 2009-2010 School Selection Guide, which has descriptions of each Saint Paul public school and information about how to apply for elementary, middle/junior high and senior high schools. Many public schools also have open houses scheduled in January, February and March.
