Saint Paul Parent Information Fair provides families with one-stop school selection opportunity

Saint Paul, Minn.- The 2009-2010 school selection season kicks off this Saturday,January 10, for thousands of families at the Parent Information Fair inthe Roy Wilkins Auditorium at the Saint Paul RiverCentre, 175 W.Kellogg Blvd. in St. Paul.

The fair runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2p.m. and includes staff from more than 100 schools to help our familieschoose the best schools for their children. The free event givesfamilies a chance to speak one-to-one with staff from all of ourschools. The event also is a draw for families who are a year or moreaway from enrolling their children in school as they seek to getanswers early for all of their school questions..

Finally, thefair is a chance to highlight an important change to the Saint PaulPublic Schools enrollment process this year. Applications are nowrequired for all elementary students who enroll in a Saint Paul PublicSchool, whether it be a magnet or neighborhood school. The move is inresponse to families' request that the application process bestreamlined.

Among the resources available to families at the Saint Paul Parent Information Fair are:
  • One-on-one assistance with the enrollment process.
  • Activities for families as they shop for the best school for their children.
  • Interpreters are available in Hmong, Spanish, Somali, Vietnamese, Oromo, Amharic, Khmer, Karen and American Sign Language.
  • Free shuttles to and from the fair.
  • In addition to Saint Paul Public Schools, private parochial and charter schools are present.
