|  | Saint Paul Public Schools Board of Education Announces Acting Superintendent 6/20/2006 9:35 PMSaint Paul, Minn. — The Saint Paul Public Schools Board of Education today announced the appointment of Lois Rockney, Saint Paul Public Schools' Executive Director of Business and Financial Affairs, to the position of acting superintendent. The appointment is effective on July 3, after Lou Kanavati, the current interim superintendent, retires.
Rockney will serve as acting superintendent until July 31, when Saint Paul Public Schools' new superintendent, Dr. Meria Carstarphen, will take over leadership of the district.
"We've faced and succeeded in the face of many challenges during the last several years -- from declining enrollment to $68 million in budget cuts." said Saint Paul Public School Board chair Elona Street-Stewart. "Lois has been a steady hand and calm voice helping guide our way. We're confident she'll do an excellent job providing guidance and leadership in the short time before our new superintendent joins us full-time."
In addition to her duties as acting superintendent, Rockney will continue her leadership of the Saint Paul Public Schools business office.
