Saint Paul Public Schools embarks on facility and academic assessment

Saint Paul, Minn.- As part of Saint Paul Public School's large-scale system change, theDistrict is assessing how its facilities are used to support teachingand learning, while reaching its mission: To provide a premiereducation for all. It is the first time SPPS has taken such acomprehensive look its buildings and grounds and the role they play inthe educational experience.

Information about the facilitiesassessment, which begins this month, and how it will be used by theDistrict was presented Tuesday night at the Board of EducationCommittee meeting. Updates about the assessment will be presented thiswinter, including at the Dec. 16 regular Board of Education meeting.

Afinal report of the study's results will be made public in Spring 2009.That report will be used to inform decisions about large-scale systemchange, giving District officials guidance in its future planning basedon enrollment trends, educational requirements and facility capacity.

The District has contracted with the Minneapolis-based Cuningham Group Architecture, P.A. to lead and conduct the assessments.
