SPPS joins with districts nationally to celebrate National African American Parent Involvement Day

Saint Paul, Minn.- Parents hoping to glean a peek into their children's educations areencouraged to join with others nationally Monday, February 9, 2009, asfamily members gear up to take their children to school or visit theirchildren at school. National African American Parent Involvement Day isa chance for families of all backgrounds to join in conversations andevents surrounding their community's schools.

NAAPID is anational call to action to get parents more involved in theireducational lives. It is expected that this observance will open updialogue among teachers, parents and students, which will lead to amore conducive learning environment for students of all backgroundsfrom pre-kindergarten through college.

Many schools in theDistrict celebrate NAAPID, or Family Involvement Day, with organizedevents including poetry readings, essay presentations and mealsthroughout the day.
