Minnesota's Political Landscape looking better thanks to Saint Paul Students
5/19/2004 3:40 PM

The political landscape at the state Capitol will soon look a little better thanks to the help of students from the Saint Paul Public Schools.

Throughout the day Thursday, May 20, about 750 students from 16 schools will descend on the capitol to beautify its ground by planting flowers and shrubs.

The "Capitol Planting" is the culmination of a year's worth of "plant studies" in the students' classrooms. It is sponsored by the Kids, Education, the Environment and You program, which focuses on helping students learn by working with flowers and trees.

Last year, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty stopped by the event to lend a hand and thank the students for their work. Organizers say the governor plans to do the same this year at about 11 a.m.

Support for the planting effort is provided by Saint Paul Community Education, the Capitol grounds staff and the Saint Paul Community Education Resource Program.
