Dear Capitol Hill Families,
My teaching career began in this very program many years ago, when the program was called J. J. Hill Gifted and Talented Magnet School. I was still teaching in this program when we moved into the Rondo complex and the school was renamed the Capitol Hill Gifted and Talented Magnet School. For nine years I taught third and fourth grade here before becoming an administrative intern for a year at what was then the Saturn School of Tomorrow. For two years I served as the assistant principal at the Benjamin E. Mays Magnet School in the Rondo complex. For nine years I served as the principal at Jackson Magnet School in the Frogtown neighborhood. I came to Capitol Hill as the principal in 2011.
Listening and learning from students and families with whom I have worked over these many years has taught me much about how to serve; one of my goals in leading this program is to make learning a robust experience that is joyful and challenging.
My three children are all young adults, my youngest currently in college, my middle child working, and my oldest, working for public radio as a reporter/producer in Chicago.
When I am away from school, I am an outdoor enthusiast; I enjoy cross country skiing, hiking, biking, and camping.
My door is always open.
