Saint Paul Public Schools implements hiring freeze
Saint Paul, Minn. - In a pre-emptive move expected to save Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) hundreds of thousands of dollars, the District is implementing a hiring freeze to begin December 22, 2008 and to run through June 30, 2009.
The move means that for the specified time, only critical vacancies will be filled.
Those might include:
- Classroom teacher positions that become vacant.
- Specialists or paraprofessionals needed to fill a student's individualized education program.
- A position required to provide mandatory services to students.
SPPS has an operating budget of about $628 million for the current fiscal year.
A similar move made last year resulted in a savings of about $500,000. The hiring
freeze will not have an effect on hiring for the 2009-2010 school year.
