School district provides free summer meals as part of USDA program
6/14/2005 9:35 AM

Free meals will be made available this summer to children under 19 years of age, and to handicapped persons (regardless of age) who participate in special education programs. The meals will be provided without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex or handicap.

The Summer Food Service Program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), begins Monday, June 20, and ends Friday, Aug. 26. Meals will be available at more than 100 sites throughout the city, including churches, recreation centers and schools. Each site will serve breakfast and/or lunch, depending on their hours of operation. Below is a list of participating sites, which are subject to change. For information about specific sites, call the Saint Paul Public Schools Nutrition Services Department at (651) 603-4950.

Meals will be provided in accordance with federal law and U.S. Department of Agriculture policy. Questions and concerns about laws and policies related to the Summer Food Service Program can be submitted to the USDA Office of Civil Rights by calling (202) 720-5964 (Voice and TDD) or writing:

USDA, Director, Office of Civil Rights
Room 326-W, Whitten Building
1400 Independence Ave. S.W.

The USDA is an equal opportunity provider and employer. The Summer Food Service Program is an effort to ensure that children in lower-income areas continue to receive nutritious meals during school vacations. More information about the program is available at www.fns.usda.gov.
