1/26/2000 10:30 AM

Saint Paul parents have a prime opportunity to see a host of educational choices for their children at the 2000 Parent Information Fair on Saturday, February 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Saint Paul RiverCentre’s Roy Wilkins Auditorium, 175 Kellogg Blvd.
At the parent information fair, parents will see everything related to choosing the first or next school for their child, including public, charter, private and parochial school booths; educational program booths; and topical information sessions. Information session topics and times are: How to Choose a School, offered at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.; Exploring Gifted and Talented Options, offered at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m;, Understanding the Accountability Plan, offered at noon; and the Future of Site-based Improvement, also offered at noon.
The fair also includes family activities to stimulate learning in elementary-aged children, including art projects for the entire family, make-and-take crafts and the Red Balloon story corner with special guests like Superintendent Patricia Harvey, KSTP TV’s Weekend News Anchor Vineeta Sawkar and Dave Huddleston, anchor of WCCO TV’s “This Morning.”
As a bonus for families who attend the fair, the Science Museum, Children’s Museum, Saint Paul Public Library and the Minnesota History Center are all offering activities on the day of the fair, with discounts and information available in the Parent Fair grab bag.
The Parent Information Fair helps parents begin their school search for the 2000-2001 school year. All Saint Paul residents this month received a School Choices and Services Catalog, which includes descriptions of each Saint Paul public school and an application for elementary and secondary magnet schools.
Hmong, Spanish, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Somali and American Sign Language interpreters will be available at the fair. The fair is free and pre-registration is not required. Free parking with shuttle bus service is available at the Saint Paul Technical College.
