Saint Paul’s New Demonstration School Holds Open House Tonight
11/16/2000 9:40 AM

Who: Students, families, staff, community members and the school’s Achievement Plus partners

What: Dedication and grand opening with tours of the school, which was originally built in 1909 and renovated this year to accommodate the new school’s program and a new YMCA. The YMCA will be adjacent to the school.

When: Tonight, November 16, 5 to 7 p.m. (program begins at 6 p.m.)

Where: John A. Johnson Achievement Plus Elementary School, 740 York Ave., Saint Paul

Why: The school is Saint Paul’s first best practices demonstration school, which means that teachers from across the school district will receive professional development on site, then be able to see instructional best practices in action by the school’s teachers. This event allows the community to see the new school and tour the site. Visitors are invited to contribute to the celebration by contributing a children’s book for the school library. Johnson Elementary is part of the Achievement Plus partnership, which includes the Saint Paul Public Schools, Amherst H. Wilder Foundation, City of Saint Paul, Ramsey County, YMCA and the State of Minnesota.
