Twin Cities business leaders and local officials to become Principals for a Day April 11 in Saint Paul Public Schools
3/28/2002 10:25 AM

More than 45 business men and women, civic leaders, and media personalities will act as guest principals in Saint Paul schools on Thursday, April 11 as part of Saint Paul Public Schools’ first-ever Principal for a Day event.

Principal for a Day matches business leaders, community leaders, local officials and celebrities with a Saint Paul school for one day to gather insight about today’s public schools from a different perspective — their own. Our Principals for a Day will take an active role with their designated school, such as greeting students in the morning, observing classes, and meeting with faculty, students and parents. Saint Paul’s guest principals will be joining the ranks of leaders and celebrities who have participated in Principal for Day events in other cities, including George Pataki, Rudolph Giuliani, Richard Parsons, Jane Pauley, Lesley Stahl, Skitch Henderson, Bill Cosby and many others.

At the end of their school day, guest principals will participate in a town meeting with Saint Paul Superintendent Pat Harvey from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Saint Paul Area of Chamber of Commerce offices, 401 S. Robert St. in downtown Saint Paul, to discuss their experiences, observations, and ideas for improvement in the Saint Paul Public Schools.

“This is an exciting event for our schools, our principals and our guest principals” said Superintendent Pat Harvey. “We are looking forward to opening up our schools to a diverse and talented group of people who will experience a day unlike any other they have had. The response to our invitation to be principal for a day has been tremendous.”
