| Saint Paul Schools Hold Holiday Concerts, Events 12/12/2000 9:30 AMCapitol Hill Magnet School’s all-school Arts Festival (grades 1-8) is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14. Music performances by the Capitol Hill bands, orchestras, and Capitol Hill Singers will be featured, as will an art exhibit and demonstrations. The fourth grade musical “Wackadoo Zoo” will be presented on the stage at 7 and 8 p.m. Along with the arts festivities, the school will hold a silent auction of student work and grade-level theme baskets to raise money in support of the arts at Capitol Hill. Cider, cheese and crackers will be served by students in a French Cafe style. At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19, the Capitol Hill Choirs will present their traditional Winter Concert featuring the Concert Choir, Ragazzi Choir (males), Treble Choir (females), Capitol Hill Singers and a girls quartet. Songs will represent many cultures and styles using student accompanists on the piano, African drums and a bell choir. Fourth grade classes will celebrate a Medieval Feast, a culmination of their extensive studies of the Middle Ages, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21. The students will be dressed in authentic costumes, sample savories of the times, be entertained by period performers and partake in the overall pageantry the Medieval Period had to offer. [ Linwood A+ Elementary is holding a Band/Choir/Dance performance at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14 for the public and the same performance for students on Friday, Dec. 15 at 1 p.m. Linwood A+ fifth graders will perform a student-produced opera at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 20 and 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21 as part of their Operaventure Plus program with the Minnesota Opera. [ Harding High School’s Madrigal Dinner is 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16. The event will feature the madrigal singers, choirs and instrumentalists, as well a feast “fit for a king.” At 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21, Harding will hold its Choir Winter Concert, featuring Knight Sounds, Madrigals, Women’s Choir, Men’s Choir and Concert Choir. [ On Tuesday, Dec. 19, Highwood Hills Elementary School will perform “A for Aesop” a take-off from Aesop’s Fables. This production will have full dress costumes and entertainment. The evening production is scheduled at 7 p.m., however there will be dress rehearsal throughout that day for the students. The event is free. [ Highland Park Elementary School is holding a “Celebration of Lights” on Tuesday, Dec. 19 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The theme of this multi-cultural holiday celebration is “the light within”. The school is incorporating an art exhibit, performances and personal reflections from family and students on making our own light (our families’ light) shine. [ Bridge View School (special education) students and staff will present an annual holiday program at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21. This year’s program is titled “Slip and Slide or Stay Inside,” a series of skits that use music, dance, communication symbols, and /or actions to show how people work or play despite blizzards and cold weather.
