What is Saint Paul Public Schools offering for Hmong students coming from Wat Tham Krabok?
With years of experience and success in teaching English to newly arrived students, Saint Paul Public Schools has established International Academy- LEAP (IA-LEAP) program for Wat Tham Krabok students seventh grade to 21 years old.

What is IA-LEAP?
IA-LEAP is an optional intensive English language learning program. It is designed especially for students coming from Wat Tham Krabok. IA-LEAP is located inside Wilson School.

Why is IA-LEAP being created?
This is not the first time so many students with very similar needs have come to Saint Paul. With many years of success in teaching English to newly arrived refugee students, we know that the IA-LEAP will provide the best education for your child.

What will students learn in IA-LEAP?
Students will go through an intensive program designed to teach them English as quickly as possible. Along with learning English, students will also learn reading, writing, math, science and history. While all teaching will be done in English, Hmong language support will be available at all times.

Is IA-LEAP permanent?
Students may choose to stay in IA-LEAP until they graduate. When the student has enough English to be successful in the mainstream, he or she also has the choice to move to another school.

What if my son or daughter needs special assistance?
IA-LEAP will provide a variety of special education services. If IA-LEAP cannot meet your student's special needs Saint Paul Public Schools will place your son or daughter in a school that can better serve his or her needs.

Now will my son or daughter get to IA-LEAP?
Free bus service is provided to all students who live over a mile from the school.

What about meals?
Students will be provided with breakfast and lunch. Free or reduced-priced meals are available for those families who qualify. Your child may also bring food from home.

Does IA-LEAP provide childcare?
No. Students with children are encouraged to enroll in English programs that provide childcare at Harding and Arlington High Schools or arrange childcare outside school. Childcare assistance funding is available through the state, call 651-266-3691 for assistance in Hmong.
