Saint Paul, Minn – On February, February 29th, staff members at Mississippi Creative Arts Magnet will all don pink shirts, but it’s not a new type of school uniform. It’s part of a culmination of the school’s recognition of “International STAND UP To Bullying Day.”

For two weeks that began February 15, 2008, students and staff members have recognized the event in a multitude of ways including signing the “International STAND UP To Bullying” pledge displayed in the Mississippi entryway, reading literature on the theme and using poetry, skits and posters to discuss the issue.

The event will culminate Friday when staff members wear pink shirts proclaiming, “Stood Up” and students broadcast a live in-school television program telling of their personal action plans for standing up to bullying. Students have also created pink braided bracelets, necklaces and rings for everyone to wear Friday.

International STAND UP to Bullying Days began in Canada where a high school boy had been taunted for wearing a pink shirt. In the following days, other students came to his support by wearing pink T-shirts to school and taking a stand against bullies.
