| Saint Paul Public Schools students and staff voting with taste buds 4/17/2008 12:02 PMMedia Advisory Office of Community Relations Contact: Howie Padilla (651) 767-8104 April 17, 2008 Saint Paul, Minn – It’s an election year and Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) students and staff members are using their taste buds in a different sort of vote that will have an impact on their dining futures. SPPS Nutrition Services is holding a Wild About Grains! taste testing event Friday, April 18, 2008 where students and staff members will pick one of three choices of delicious whole grain salads. The favorite will to become a permanent part of next fall’s school cafeteria’s Choice Bars. The salads vying for permanency are: • Corn and Barley Ensalada • Taboulleh • Five Grain Salad Votes will be tallied and the winner will be announced by the end of the day Friday. The results will appear on the SPPS web site, www.spps.org. Research has shown that consumption of whole grains has many health benefits. Whole grains are low in fat and have no cholesterol. The contain complex carbohydrates, which supply energy for daily activities, and are high in Vitamins B and E, minerals and valuable antioxidants. ### NOTE TO EDITORS: To arrange photo or film opportunities of students during the test, contact Howie Padilla at (651) 767-8104. |
