Special Education or Disabled Students
Special Education Students - In the case of a student with a
disability who has an individual education plan (IEP), the student’s
IEP team must meet immediately but not more than ten (10) school days
after the date on which the decision to remove the student from the
student’s current education placement is made.  The IEP team shall
at that meeting: conduct a review of the relationship between the
child’s disability and the behavior subject to disciplinary action; and
determine the appropriateness of the child’s education plan.

The requirements of the IEP team meeting apply when:


  1. the parent requests a meeting.

  2. the student is removed from the student’s current placement for 5 or more consecutive days; or

  3. the student’s total days of removal from the student’s placement
    during the school year exceed 10 cumulative days in a school
    year.  The school administration shall implement alternative
    educational services when the suspension exceeds five (5) days.  A
    separate administrative conference is  required for each period of
    suspension.  (Minn. Stat. § 121A.41, subd. 10)

  • The school nurse shall be notified in writing when [any] medication must be administered to a student during the school day.

  • The school nurse shall keep a record of the administration and
    self-administration of medications to students.  All medications
    brought to school must be in the original labeled container. 

  • Students observed by school personnel self-administering
    unauthorized medications shall be reported to the principal and to
