Upward Bound is a college preparatory program for 9-12 grade students. Students in Upward Bound participate in weekly afterschool tutoring, monthly weekend workshops and a summer program to improve academic performance and complete college readiness tasks. Students beginning preparing for the ACT exam in their 9 and 10 grade years with intensive reading review through a study of world affairs. Juniors focus on general strategy for the ACT exam and content in English grammar, mathematics and writing. Seniors receive one on one assistance through the college application, financial aid, scholarship and enrollment process. All students are expected to participate in two summer programs hosted at Century College with Upward Bound. The summer program is a six week academic program, which culminates in a one week trip. - Students will study their environment through creative writing, agricultural science, and geometry & statistics of garden planning.
2014: Milwaukee, WI, Drafting a Blueprint for Success
- Students explored themes of architecture through math, science, and English courses.
2013: Duluth, MN, Navigating a Successful Future
- Students built boats and studied marine and land navigation.
2012: Chicago, IL, Building a Better Community
- Students studied themes of urban planning.
