At Como High, we value our volunteers,
who enhance student learning and strengthen school-community relations!
Current Volunteer Opportunities:
- Guest Speakers
Are you with an organization or perhaps a professional seeking to do a workshop, guest lecture or alternative program with students? Contact the volunteer coordinator to see how you can get your program involved at our school community!
- Tutoring/Mentoring (in Partnership with MOI)
CPSHS partners with MOI, the Mid-Continent Oceanographic Institute, a non-profit dedicated to helping under-resourced students. MOI provides trainings and the necessary paperwork to become a volunteer tutor for our students.
We are currently seeking volunteer tutors who have an availability for one hour each week to work with students in their classes.
Tutors work one-on-one and in small groups with students to help them stay on task, reinforce organization skills and guide them in their homework and content with teacher support.
Some content classes are: Math, English, Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Science, French, and English Language Learning.
Not a content expert? No problem! We are seeking tutors who know how to guide students to problem solve, such as:
- If you don't know how to solve a problem, look in the book!
- Not sure what the assignment was? Ask a fellow classmate!
- Need to know more about solving that equation? Let's take a look at your notes.
- Ask your teacher for help if you get stuck!
