Hello and welcome to the 2017-18 school year at Highland Park Senior High! I am very grateful to have been welcomed as a new staff member to the Highland community last school year and, now, starting my second year with such an amazing staff! Previously, I was lucky enough to spend time co-teaching Accelerated Biology, along with Anatomy and Physiology, at Highland Senior, as well as work in a 7th grade science classroom at Highland Middle. Courses I will be teaching this year include Biology, Biology with emphasis in English language aquisition, and Physical Science.
While I initially started my university studies as a Neuroscience major, I soon discovered I am not meant to work long hours in the lab. Although, I learned a lot from my time in research, my true passion was working with student peers. I had the opportunity to lead lecture and study sections of general chemistry for pre-nursing students at Century College, as well as for pre-veterinary students at the University of Minnesota. I went on to complete my Biology B.S., with emphasis in Chemistry and Psychology. Looking for a more impactful role in teaching, I enrolled at the University of St. Catherine to complete my Masters in Education, while also being accepted in the Twin Cities Collaborative, TC2, a year-long teaching residency with emphasis in urban education.
On a more personal note - I love sports. Soccer, football, basketball, volleyball, and hockey are my favorites to watch. I am a huge Minnesota Wild fan and I love that we now have a professional soccer team.
I am very much looking forward to getting to know the students in my classroom this year. The best way to contact me is via email, feel free to reach out with any questions you may have about the school year.
In the event of an absence, students should refer to schoology or blue classroom binders for missed work, as well as check in with Ms. Bolopue. If you plan to miss more than two consecutive days of school, advance notice will help you to remain successful in the course. Planning for your absence and missed assignments ahead of time is most beneficial.
