Hello and welcome to the 2021-22 school year at Highland Park Senior High! I am very excited to welcome students back to our high school building and science classroom! I am extremely grateful to be a member of the education team in the Highland Park community and, now, starting my sixth year of teaching. Courses I have taught in the recent past include Biology, Physical Science, and also Chemistry with support for English Language Learners. This year I will be teaching General Biology, Co-Taught Biology with support for English Language Learners, as well as one section of Chemistry.
While I initially started my university studies as a Neuroscience major, I soon discovered I was not meant to work long hours in the lab. Although I learned a lot from my time in research, my true passion is working with student peers. I had the opportunity to lead lectures and study sections of general chemistry for pre-nursing students at Century College, as well as for pre-veterinary students at the University of Minnesota. I went on to complete my Biology B.S., with emphasis in Chemistry and Psychology. Looking for a more impactful role in teaching, I enrolled at the University of St. Catherine to complete my Masters in Education, while also being accepted into the Twin Cities Collaborative, TC2, a year-long teaching residency with a focus on urban education. I am happy to continue developing my skills as a classroom teacher, while also pursuing my Administrative License and Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership.
On a more personal note - I love sports. Soccer, football, basketball, volleyball, and hockey are my favorites to watch. I am a huge Minnesota Wild fan and I love that we now have a professional soccer team. My children are very active in sports and community programs, there is never a dull moment in our home! My oldest child started college this year at Iowa State University, GO CYCLONES! Together, our family adopted two rescue puppies last year... just when we think there is a moment of quiet, our furry family members jump in looking for attention. We love them!
I am very much looking forward to getting to know students in-person this year and hope we can continue with our classroom routines throughout the school year. The best way to contact me is via email. Feel free to reach out with any questions you may have about the school year.
In the event of an absence, students should refer to schoology or classroom notebook and Schoology for missed work, as well as check in with Ms. Bolopue. If you plan to miss more than two consecutive days of school, advance notice will help you to remain successful in the course. Planning for your absence and missed assignments ahead of time is most beneficial.
