Master of Arts in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence
Ms. Leah Ashburn
Hi! I am Ms. Leah and I have been the Speech-Language Pathologist at Battle Creek Middle School since 2014. I graduated with my graduate degree in Speech-Language and Hearing Sciences from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in 2014. Throughout my graduate program, I gained experience while working in a number of different settings, including schools, hospitals and outpatient clinics with clients of all ages. I have also assessed and treated a range of speech and language impairments, including feeding & swallowing, articulation disorders, stuttering, expressive and receptive language disabilities, augmentative and assistive communication.
I feel that Special Education is the bridge to curriculum, while communication is the bridge to EVERYTHING. I am passionate about helping my students find their voice and encouraging them to use it and be heard. I enjoy working with students closely in a pull-out setting or in their classrooms to meet their own, individaulized goals so they are able to more fully participate in their classroom and community.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, travelling, and playing volleyball. I also frequently spend time with my family, including my six crazy nieces! I love hearing about my students' interests and experiences and incorporating them into their therapy sessions.
Please feel free to contact me by emailing, calling or stopping by my office at any time!
