Counseling Program Mission
The mission of the school counseling program is to ensure, without exception and without excuse, student success and preparation for college, career, and community engagement through the implementation of academic support, social emotional education, and college & career readiness.
Counseling Program Vision
- Imagine a school where all students, parents, and staff members embrace each other’s differences and encourage each other in academic, career, and social/emotional pursuits with support from the school counseling program.
- Imagine a school environment where students treat one another with respect and have a genuine awareness of their own emotions and the emotions of others
- Imagine a school where all students demonstrate grit and have the determination and perseverance to reach their goals.
- Imagine a school where all students will leave Bruce Vento with an idea of how they can positively impact the community and world and be prepared for college.
My name is Katy Steinbach and I am the school counselor at Bruce Vento Elementary. I have been at Vento since 2017. The counseling program at Vento aims to meet the academic, social, emotional, and college/career needs of ALL students. I meet these needs through teaching counseling lessons regularly throughout the school year. Lesson topics include:
Academic Success Skills
I also meet with students individually and in small groups.
I graduated from the College of St. Benedict in 2014 with a degree in Psychology and received my masters degree from the University of Minnesota. When I'm not spending time with the students at Vento, I love to run, travel, hike, ski, camp, and spend time with my dog, Frisco!
Please feel free to contact me with concerns, questions, or celebrations!
