Welcome to Paul and Sheila Wellstone Elementary
Our historic sunlit building, named for the late Senator Paul Wellstone and his wife Sheila, offers students and families three computer labs, two large science classrooms and a beautiful library with reading materials in both English and Spanish. Our goal is to educate students to have a deep knowledge of Science (Biosmart), to be proficient in the Spanish and English languages (Dual Language Immersion), to develop a global perspective and gain understanding and appreciation of other cultures. Our vision for Wellstone Elementary is an inclusive environment where diversity is valued and all students are free to be themselves. It is a cohesive community where families, staff, and students feel welcomed, encouraged, supported and engaged. We share the responsibility of upholding high expectations that are consistent. Creative thinking paired with inventive teaching will lead to exceptional academic and social achievement.
The students will learn the Latin dances Merengue and Rumba, and the ballroom dances Foxtrot, Waltz and Swing. They will also learn some fun line dances. Equally important will be their social learning, as this program emphasizes that dance is a way of making and sharing connections.
The cost per classroom is $2,000. The money raised will go straight to funding this program for all four of our fifth grade classrooms at Wellstone. Each class will get a 10 week, 20-lesson residency.
