Degrees and Certifications:
BA: University of St. Thomas (2008) M.Ed: University of Minnesota (2015)
My name is May Vang. This is my 7th year at Capitol Hill. I am very excited to be a part of the Capitol Hill family. This year I am teaching Pre-Algebra, Algebra Accelerated, and Math Lab: Math and Social Justice. I graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a degree in math and secondary education. I also received my Masters in math education from the University of Minnesota. I love teaching and learning about math. As I tell the students, teaching math is my dream job, and it's great to be able spend my teaching years at Capitol Hill.
Besides teaching, I love...
- Traveling. This summer, I visited Denver, Duluth, Grand Marais, Bemidji, and Wahpeton (ND).
- Food. I am always up for trying new foods and different kinds of food. I love sushi, pho, curry, popcorn, chips, and cupcakes.
- Family. I have 6 brothers and sisters. My youngest sister is 13 and in 8th grade. I have 4 nephews. I got married in 2018, so I do have a new name, May Vang Swanson. (But don't worry, you can still call me Ms. Vang.)
What's new this year is that I am welcoming my first baby. Baby girl! So that means I will be on maternity leave from the end of September until after winter break. I will return on January 4th.
While I'm gone, Mr. John Benda will be the guest teacher. He is a retired St. Paul math teacher, so he really good at teaching math. He is also a former Capitol Hill teacher, so he knows the school well. Mr. Benda will be a great guest teacher and I know you will all like him very much.
I am looking forward to this school year even though it is a weird year and I will be gone for a part of it. Either way, I am excited to be your math teacher.
