Students in grades 9-12 who are behind by six or fewer credits can register for S-Term 1 OR S-Term 2 through their regular school counselor. Students in grades 9-12 who are behind by more than six credits should attend BOTH S-Term 1 AND S-Term 2.
There are both options to learn in the traditional classroom and with a blended format (digital curriculum with class meetings twice a week). Digital courses are open to students who will be 16 years of age by the last day of the session.

Digital credit recovery for students
Q: What is digital credit recovery?
A: Digital credit recovery allows students to gain the credits they need to graduate by taking courses online. Under the guidance of a Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) teacher, students complete the lessons online and meet with their teacher twice a week to review their work. Students must complete all assigned work by the deadline announced by the teacher in order to earn credit.
Q: What digital credit recovery classes are offered in an SPPS Summer Learning Program (S-Term)?
A: Only courses required for graduation are offered. Most digital courses are offered in both summer session 1 and 2. The Financial Literacy course is only offered during summer session 2.
Q: How does digital credit recovery work?
A: Students will take digital courses by logging in to http://apexvs.com using their assigned username and password. Classes are designed so that students:
- Complete two to three units at a time in order.
- Take quizzes to advance to the next assignment by scoring 70 percent or higher. If students score below 70 percent, they must contact their teacher to improve their understanding of the topic. Quizzes may be taken twice.
- Complete written assignments and send to their teacher by using email inside their digital course.
- Can monitor their progress and show parents how much they have accomplished
- When they have completed all of the activities assigned and taken all the assessments, they are awarded a final grade and receive credit for their course. This grade is posted to the student’s transcript at the end of the session.
Q: What are the expectations for digital credit recovery students?
A: Students are expected to:
- Follow the Academic Honesty Policy and the Acceptable Use Policy (complete pre-tests, quizzes, and unit tests without the aid of search engines).
- Read and study all instructional materials, including videos, interactive exercises, and texts
- Work on their digital credit recovery class for multiple hours every day of the session.
- Attend meetings at their assigned summer site twice a week with their classmates and teacher. Students can only be absent once.
- Check their email daily and ask their teacher for help in between class meetings.
- Earn 70 percent or more on quizzes in order to move on to the next activity.
- Submit written work to their teacher by the due date by using email.
- Complete the course by the last day of the summer session in order to earn credit. There are no extensions. All requests for accommodations for special circumstances must be forwarded to the site administrator at their school.
Q: Why do students have to attend in person twice a week?
A: Data shows that students who attend twice a week are more likely to earn the credits they need for graduation. The schedules of required class meetings are posted at spps.org/summer. Please note that schedules are not the same at each high school site.
Q: What transportation should I use to attend an SPPS Summer Learning Program (S-Term)?
A: Students who are only taking digital classes and live within the city limits of Saint Paul, will be provided a Metro Transit Summer Student Pass. If students are taking both traditional and digital classes, they can ride a school bus, if they meet transportation guidelines.
