Ms. Susan Thomas
Ms. Thomas is a special education teacher. She earned her BA in Spanish from Hamline University and an MA in Special Education with licenses in ASD and EB/D from Bethel University. She began teaching at Riverview in 2018. Prior to Riverview, she taught at Cherokee Heights Elementary for seven years as a teacher in the Autism Program. Before teaching in St. Paul, she taught for two years in the Northeast Metro District, teaching students with autism and emotional and behavior disorders. At Riverview, Ms. Thomas teaches students that need a little extra help in a particular subject. She is very proud of the progress her hard working students make.
Ms. Thomas grew up in St. Paul and attended St. Paul Public schools. Over the years, she has lived in Tucson, Miami, and Seville, Spain. Teaching is a second career for her; for many years she worked for Northwest Airlines, as a reservationist, and ticket agent. As you might imagine, she loves to travel and learn about different cultures. Her other interests are gardening, biking, kayaking, Nordic skiing, and reading.
Currently, Ms. Thomas lives in a northern suburb of St. Paul. She has two adult children, a son and a daughter, and they both have their own homes. She also has a big yellow dog named Sadie. Ms. Thomas loves spending time with her children, Sadie, extended family, and friends.
Ms. Thomas enjoys working at Riverview alongside many dedicated and talented teachers. It has always been her dream to work in a Spanish or Dual Immersion Program because of her love of the Spanish language and culture.
