Ms. Sarah Schupanitz
Hi there! My name is Sarah Schupanitz and while this will be my third (full) year at Capitol Hill, this is my 10th year teaching. Though I'm originally from Plymouth, I began teaching in St. Louis, Missouri. A few years ago, I moved back to Minneapolis and taught in the city and metro area, though I'm happy to make Capitol Hill my home!
I am so excited to be teaching 6th and 7th grade Reading and Writing Workshop again this year. Reading and Writing will be two separate classes for 6th graders. We will alternate between reading and writing units in 7th grade! We will be using mentor texts, short stories, and videos to learn from with our reading and writing. We will also be doing A LOT of independent, choice reading.
When I'm not at school, you'll find me reading a book, thrifting around the cities, at yoga, or riding my bike around Minneapolis. This summer, I enjoyed paddleboarding on Lake Harriet, and this winter I am hoping to do some snowshoeing so I can stay active outside! I also listen to a lot of Taylor Swift and Lizzo, and have rediscovered how great Fleetwood Mac is, so please don't judge me if you catch me singing in my car or between classes! :)
I am one of the masterminds behind The Capitol Hill litmobile! Read about our efforts during the 2020-2021 school year in TIME Magazine!
Do you have ideas about how we can keep the litmobile alive beyond distance learning? Let me know! We'd love to have a parent-supported book wagon or library activity!
