Ms. Sarah Schupanitz

Hi there! My name is Sarah Schupanitz and while this will be my second (full) year at Capitol Hill, this is my 9th year teaching. Though I'm originally from Plymouth, I began teaching in St. Louis, Missouri. A few years ago, I moved back to Minneapolis and taught in the city and metro area, though I'm happy to make Capitol Hill my home!

I am so excited to be teaching 6th and 7th grade Reading and Writing Workshop again this year. Reading and Writing will be two separate classes for 6th graders. We will alternate between reading and writing units in 7th grade! We will be using mentor texts, short stories, and videos to learn from with our reading and writing. We will also be doing A LOT of independent, choice reading. Sounds kind of tough with distance learning, you say? Well, the ELA team has a plan for that! Details on the CH Lit Mobile to come...

I will also be teaching the Creative Writing content elective for 6th graders. I will be drawing on my love for storytelling (my friends tell me I'm quite animated), my background in journalism and mass communication (B.A. University of Wisconsin-Madison), and also from student interest! I'm very excited to get student input and develop units based on their experiences and interests.

When I'm not at school, you'll find me reading a book, hanging upside down at circus, at yoga, or riding my bike around Minneapolis. This summer, I enjoyed paddleboarding on Lake Harriet, and this winter I am hoping to do some snowshoeing so I can stay active outside! I also listen to a lot of Taylor Swift and Lizzo, and have rediscovered how great Fleetwood Mac is, so please don't judge me if you catch me singing on Google Meets.

I am one of the masterminds behind The Capitol Hill litmobile! We will be caravaning around St. Paul one week a month to deliver books, books, and more books for students enrolled in grades 1-8 at Capitol Hill!

Keep an eye out on this page, Schoology, your email, and social media (to come!) for information on when and where!

The litmobile will be running November 30 - December 4!

If you would like to donate books, money, notebooks/composition notebooks, pencils, hand sanitizer, masks, gloves, pop-up tents, or anything else that you think would be be helpful for either safety or for our students, please reach out!
