English Language Learners

Hello
  • Get ready for the 2021-2022 school year!
Remember that the first day of school is THURSDAY, September 9, 2021.

  • The English Learner (EL) Department provides support for students whose home language is not English. At Central, some content courses are co-taught by the content teacher and an English Language teacher. Co-taught classes at Central are as follows:

    • English (9-12)
    • World History
    • Human Geography
    • Intermediate Algebra

The EL Department also offers an elective course called English Language Development. It allows for students to strengthen their academic language through reading, writing, listening and speaking skills for success in high school courses. Students will be placed in ELD classes by counselors in consultation with EL teachers and students’ English proficiency levels.
