Middle School Teacher

A San Diego native—I've lived in Minneapolis since 2007. I am a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a Masters of Education. My undergrad was in Elementary Education Foundations.

Before my graduate studies, I worked as a Special Education assistant. In my previous incarnations, I worked as a Transportation Security Officer with the Department of Homeland Security.

I often reflect on my own education as a child—I hated school. I was always too loud, too talkative, and in detention. It wasn't until high school that a choir director gave me a chance to shine.

While in all other places of school I struggled, choir was one place where I was told I was good. It was the one place I felt I could belong. I have tried my best to hold that lesson in my heart and make a place where my students feel they belong.

When I am not thinking about all my exciting responsibilities as a teacher, I enjoy listening and playing music, hitting the gym, walking my dog and eating tacos.
