Degrees and Certifications:
Hello, my name is Stephanie Hubbard! Students call me Ms. Stephanie.
I am a board certified music therapist, and I have worked in the St. Paul Public School district since the 2011-2012 school year. I have an undergraduate music therapy degree from Augsburg University, and a Master of Arts in Music Therapy from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.
I love to play the ukulele, banjo, piano, guitar, and drums. I also love learning about new music cultures, and collaborating with staff and local music artists to provide specialized music experiences and opportunities for our music therapy students. I studied Jamaican folk songs and Afro-Carribbean drumming in Jamaica, and I studied scat singing, circle singing, and vocal improvisation with local Jazz singer Sarah Greer. I love learning from and with my students, in and through music.
In music therapy, we seek to explore, expand, and better understand our relationships with music, as independently and authentically as possible. We do this through music creation, music listening, and music exploration. In addition to improving music skills and developing the music relationship, music therapy can support improvements in quality of life, independence, academic and cognitive skills, motor skills, and speech.
It is a joy and privilege to serve SPPS students in music. Parents are welcome to visit music therapy any time. Feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
