Welcome to Phalen Lake

  • December 18, 2018

    Dear Families,

At the end of the week we begin our winter break and Holiday celebrations.  As 2018 ends, I am thinking back on this school year.  It has been a great fall! Your children have been growing academically and socially.  Our teachers have been learning more about our reading assessments and new ways to provide instruction.  Teachers are attending training to learn more about a new math app.  We are excited to see how our students use this tool!  Students in grades 4 and 5 have been exploring new learning partnerships in science.  Our Hmong Immersion students continue to become bilingual. Our students are learning more about health and fitness.  Many of you were able to attend our Hmong and Karen New Year, watching all our amazing student performances!  We had great conversations during Parent/Teacher conferences in November.  Phalen Lake Hmong Studies Magnet is an amazing school and I am so grateful you and your children are part of our community!

We also want to let you know that changes are coming to our school for the 2019-2020 school year.  Our start time will be changing from 8:30 to 7:30. Our learning day will start an hour earlier our dismissal will move from 3:00 to 2:00.  Parents last week you were sent a survey in an email from SPPS.  The office of Family Engagement wants to hear from you on what you would like to see offered for after school programming.  At the same time, we are working here at Phalen Lake to see what kinds of programming we might be able to offer at our school. Please take the time to complete this survey.  Your ideas and suggestions are very important.  If you did not get the survey the link is listed below as is a QR code if that works as well. If neither of these options work, please call the office.  651-293-8935.

Finally, we want to thank you for being a part of our learning community!  We want to wish you a restful winter break, Happy Holidays and a very Happy and Prosperous New Year!  We are always available to visit.  If you have any questions, concerns, or creative ideas on how to improve our programming we want to hear from you!  Remember coffee and tea are always on in the Family Room.  Please stop by and visit!
