    Dear Families,

At Phalen Lake Hmong Studies Magnet, we welcome, respect, and learn from each other.  Our diversity is our strength and we cherish the many traditions, languages, cultures, and races that enrich our classrooms.

On opening day for teachers, our staff talked about the many troubling things happening in our nation currently.   Given these issues facing all of us, as a staff, we created the above statement of our values.  We want you to know that we cherish your child and are committed to doing our best to create a school learning community focused on creating a safe, nurturing, academically rigorous learning environment that honors the uniqueness of every child.

It was wonderful to meet families as they came in for Open House!  The pace and energy this year was more relaxing as families had the opportunity to stop by school from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  If you haven’t had the chance to complete your iUpdate online and need assistance, please stop by the Family Room and staff will be available to assist you.  Also, we have openings at each grade level K-5.  If you know of friends or families who may be interested in Phalen, please invite them to come for a tour of our school!

Please continue to communicate with the office if you have changes in your address or transportation plans for your child.  If you need to pick up your child at the end of the day and it is not a part of your normal routine, please notify the office by 2:30 p.m.  We need the time to notify your child’s teacher of the change. We are on a tight schedule for our buses to run their routes and move on to the next school.

I would like to welcome Sue Vang back to Phalen Lake as our new Assistant Principal!   We have had a great start to the school year.  I am excited about the opportunities in front of us this year.  I want to thank all the parents who have already shared their ideas on how to better meet your children’s needs and continue to keep Phalen the great school that it is!  If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas to share I want to hear from you!  You can call me anytime at 651-293-8935.  Remember, the coffee/tea is always on in the Family Room, please come visit!

    Respectfully,

    Catherine Rich, Principal
