Welcome to Third Grade

Learner Profile
  • Reader's Workshop: We use Teachers College Reader's Workshop for our reading curriculum. In Reader's Workshop, we start our day with a whole group mini-lesson learning specific reading strategies. Student then work independently with a just right book or in a small group with their teacher. Finally, at the end we come back together for a reflection and share!

Writer's Workshop: We use Teachers College Writer's Workshop as our writing curriculum. Third grade students will keep a writer's notebook and will write daily.  Students are learning about the writing process of brainstorming, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing.

Everyday Math: We use the Everyday Mathmatics curriculum developed by the University of Chicago. Students learn a variety of mathematical concepts and procedures.  A big element is problem solving using materials such as manipulative and team work.   The four strands of math that we will focus on include:  Numbers and Operations, Data Analysis and Probability, Geometry and Measurement, and Algebra. In addition to Everyday Mathmatics, our students will develop automaticity of basic math facts through our Math Facts curriculum.

Social Studies and Science: These subjects are integrated into our daily PYP units of study.

Specialist: In third grade we experience time with all four specialist teachers weekly.  These specialist include Spanish, Physical Education, Art, and Culture Class (through our partnership with the Cultural Wellness Center).
