Greetings! My name is Melissa Green - Montessori teacher in Class 1407.

I have been an E1 teacher in St. Paul Public Schools for 23 years. This will be my third year at J.J. Hill Montessori school.

Our Elementary 1 classroom has students in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade. We are dedicated to the Montessori curriculum - math, geometry, language, music, zoology, botany, earth and environmental sciences, and cultural studies (Geography, History, & Social Studies). We focus on the development of personal as well as social skills in our community.  We strive to be independent, thoughtful, and peaceful learners. We practice freedom with responsibility, and guide with nautral consequences. I am honored to lead the way.

When not at school, I love spending time in the natural world as much as possible; hiking, kayaking, camping, and gardening are some of my favorite outdoor activities. I love to make music! I play guitar, piano, and sing, which I do share with my students. I love to travel  - my partner is originally from Jamaica, and we cherish spending time with family there. I enjoy cooking and sharing Sunday dinner with loved ones. Our grown daughter lives nearby, and we have a dog and two cats at home -  Layla, Jazz, and Monk.

I discovered Montesssori education when I was living in Tucson, Arizona. It was a calling, and I am very passionate about the journey. My daughter started Montessori education at the age of 2, and continued all the way through high school.  I feel very blessed to continue to learn with my students every year as a Montessori teacher.
