Degrees and Certifications:
Bachelor degree in Music Education, University of Minnesota Masters degree in Music Education, Boston University
This is my 7th year teaching band at Capitol Hill and my 19th year teaching in St. Paul. Band at Capitol Hill is open to all students in 4th-8th grade. I teach 2 elementary bands (beginning and advanced) as well as 3 middle school bands (beginning/cougar band, intermediate/varsity band, and advanced/concert band).
I am excited to share a couple of changes that will enhance student learning beginning this school year. First, we are transitioning to using Schoology as our new grading and class platform. Second, all secondary students in grades 6-12 will be gaining access to Smart Music for free. Smart Music is an incredibly powerful tool that will greatly enhance student practice and assessment both in and out of the classroom. I will be working with students over the coming weeks to learn how to best utilize Smart Music to enhance their learning.
Elementary band recruiting and registration will take place over the first 3 weeks of school. Parents of 4th and 5th grade students should look for the elementary band screening form by the end of the first week of school. A sign-up form will be sent home after an instrument has been selected.
I would also like to acknowledge our fantastic PTO who funded our new bass drum in the band room, our new sound shells, as well as our wonderful field trip to the University of Minnesota last year.
Finally, don't forget to keep an eye on the school calendar on the main Capitol Hill page for all our concert dates. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about the band program. E-mail is my preferred method of contact. I look forward to a wonderful year of music making!
