Degrees and Certifications:
Bachelor degree in Music Education, University of Minnesota Masters degree in Music Education, Boston University
This is my 10th year teaching band at Capitol Hill and my 22nd year teaching in St. Paul. I have my bachelors degree in music education from the University of Minnesota and also a masters in music education from Boston University. In my free time I enjoy going to see live music, biking, and hiking. My primary instrument is saxophone.
Band at Capitol Hill is open to all students in 4th-8th grade. I teach 2 elementary bands (beginning and advanced) as well as 3 middle school bands (beginning/cougar band, intermediate/varsity band, and advanced/concert band). Elementary sign-up will be a bit different this year due to distance learning. Returning elementary band students will receive information from me within the first few weeks of school about how to sign up. The decision has been made to hold off on starting new 4th and 5th grade students until a later date (probably when we are able to teach face-to-face). Band will certainly look and feel a bit different this year, but I believe making music is more important now than ever and look forward to tackling the challenges ahead.
I would also like to acknowledge our fantastic PTO who has generously funded many items for the band program over the years; including our chairs and stands, bass drum, xylophone, sound shells, and more! I am also excited to share our involvement in a large music commissioning project over the summer. The PTO helped to fund our inclusion in a project to commission 10 pieces of music by 10 African-American composers.
Please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or 651-744-7253 with any questions you may have about the band program. I look forward to a wonderful year of music making!
