Mrs. Mariana Tennyson
"Childhood should be a journey, not a race."
Welcome to First Grade! My name is Mariana Tennyson. This is my 32nd year in teaching- wow, how time flies! This is my 8th year teaching in first grade and I look forward to working with every family that enters my classroom. The students of Horace Mann are delightful! I have been here since 1999 and find them to be smart, focused, kind, collaborative, and highly inquisitive.
During my many years in education, I have thoroughly enjoyed roles as a gifted and talented specialist, Reading Recovery teacher, building content coach, as well as a Title 1 specialist for reading and mathematics. Even though each role has its own flavor, they all have a common theme: Honoring the whole child and the diverse cultures, gifts, and talents that each student brings to learning.
I live in Eagan with my husband, 2 dogs- Lindy Lou and Bo, 2 cats- Zewati and Ralph, and 2 birds- Loco and Jose. I have a son, Robert, who is currently finishing up his Ph.D. program at the University of Washington. This summer we celebrated his marriage to Aditi. They both will be finishing up their programs in 2020 and will be out searching for a position at a university together. Hopefully there will be some professor openings at the U of M. It would be nice having them close to home. Since graduating from college, my daughter is actively pursuing advanced studies in science and lives close to home. Being 15 minutes away makes stopping over for dinner very easy!
My family and I enjoy traveling and have visited countries all over the world. We love to immersed ourselves in other cultures ~ What a wonderful window to our world! When we are not traveling, I keep busy swimming, biking, hiking, and reading. Nothing beats a hot summer day relaxing in the pool with a good book!
I am so excited about this year especially since we all get to learn in our new space! If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
