Attendance and Truancy Intervention SAM (School Attendance Matters)
-
It is the goal of the Saint Paul Public Schools and the Ramsey County Attorney's Office to end truancy. Since the partnership began in 1995, SPPS has worked in cooperation with the Ramsey County Attorney's Office to reduce the number of students who go to court for truancy. In addition the district has identified a series of indicators and targets known through research and practice to affect student achievement and has set specific targets aimed at improving student attendance and lowering the drop out rate. Since middle school is the gateway to high school and post secondary education; it is so important that our middle school students attend school well. With the help of their parents, the SAM program can improve the attendance of students with excessive absence and reduce both truancy and the opportunity for juvenile crime.
